I thought I’d share one of the first pictures that inspired me to create Vintage Black Glamour. The caption from Corbis on this circa 1920s picture reads “Photo shows Thelma and Bonnie, called the “Graceful Creoles,” posing coyly for the photographer at the Lido. The Lido is in Venice, Italy. And you thought you just loved “Thelma and Louise”… :)
Who’s ready to hit the beach? This trio of Katherine Dunham dancers (Jacqueline Walcott, Frances Taylor and Lou Camacho) are dancing on the beach in Copenhagen after a day of rehearsals in 1952. This photo appeared in the August 7, 1952 issue of Jet.
Nat “King” Cole honeymooning with wife Maria in Mexico in 1948. This photo appeared in the April 1965 issue of Ebony which paid tribute to the legend after his untimely death from lung cancer at age 45.
